In today's world physicians are required to maintain their professional expertise with Continued Medical Education (CME) courses. I see this a lot all over sites for residency and fellowship programs - they talk mostly about Graduate Medical Education (GME) courses. The short of it is - 50 hours of extra-professional study every year in order to remain a licenced physician (sometimes the stipulation is 150hrs in 3 years).
Today I discovered the American Academy of Osteopathy (AAO). Though they are not the only source of these CME credits, they are a major hub for the pursuit of courses pertaining directly to osteopathy where the enhancement and preservation of all things unique to osteopathic medicine are celebrated. They have a very compelling program to earn a special Fellowship through the documentation of dedication and original contributions to the field of osteopathic medicine.
Through the AAO I found the Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation. Yet another institution (and non-profit at that!) established to enhance the care given by D.O.s
Some times I feel like a kid in a candy store.
